A finance blog that cites its sources

Pandaspanda editorial team working around a data-filled screen in a charcoal-toned office

Pandaspanda was built on a simple premise: Kenyan readers deserve financial analysis as rigorous as any produced in London or New York.

What Pandaspanda does and who it is for

Pandaspanda is a data-driven finance blog serving Kenyan investors, finance professionals, and economically curious readers who want analysis grounded in verifiable figures. Founded in Garissa in 2021, the publication covers four core areas: NSE market analysis, personal finance guides, a curated weekly newsletter, and structured self-paced courses on financial literacy. Every article, guide, and course module is produced with a single editorial rule: every claim of fact requires a citable source. We serve readers across Kenya — from retail investors in Nairobi to small-business owners in Garissa managing cross-border trade cash flows — and we write with the same level of analytical depth for all of them. The charcoal-gold design language reflects the publication's character: precise, structured, and grounded in the warm economic landscape of East Africa. Since launch, Pandaspanda has published over 180 long-form articles and four complete course modules, attracting a subscriber base that spans fifteen counties.

How the team works — and what we do not do

The Pandaspanda editorial team is small by design: two full-time writers with backgrounds in economics and accounting, one data analyst who builds and maintains the proprietary data pipelines pulling from NSE, CBK, and KNBS releases, and one editor whose sole responsibility is factual verification before publication. This structure means the publication moves deliberately rather than reactively — we do not chase daily market noise. Our process: identify a measurable question, gather the relevant public data, run the numbers, write the analysis, verify the sources, publish. We do not produce commentary on stocks without examining at least two earnings periods of data. We do not publish market forecasts framed as certainties — all forward-looking statements are labelled as scenarios with stated assumptions. Pandaspanda does not offer personalised investment advice, does not manage assets, and does not accept sponsored content under any commercial arrangement. Results described in our analysis reflect historical data and do not guarantee future outcomes; macroeconomic and political conditions in Kenya and the broader East African region can shift variables that no data model fully anticipates.

“The fixed-income guide Pandaspanda published in March 2023 was the most methodically sound piece I had read from a Kenyan source. The yield-curve explanation used actual CBK auction data from the prior six months — not a textbook diagram. I shared it with the entire treasury team at my organisation.”
